TURKEY: Abdul Hamid II, 1876-1909, AR medal, AH1294 (1877), NP-1121, Turkish-Russian War Medal (Rusya Muharebesi Madalyasi), tughra with year below all with wreath / star above a rising sun framed by gun, bayonets and flags, including Arabic inscription on crescent, pierced as usual for hanging, with original ring, suspender and white & red ribbon, EF, RR. The Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 was a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and the Eastern Orthodox coalition led by the Russian Empire and composed of several Balkan countries. The war was fought both in the Balkans and in the Caucasus. Additional factors for the conflict include the Russian hopes of recovering territorial losses suffered during the Crimean War, re-establishing itself in the Black Sea and supporting the political movement attempting to free Balkan nations from the Ottoman Empire.
