Frigate Ertugrul Monument Restored Medal 1937



Frigate Ertugrul In 1863, according to the period of the Ottoman Navy equipment is a very good warship. In 1890, Frigate Ertugrul paid a visit to Japan. Immediately after leaving Japan's Kuşimoto port on September 15, 1890, he was caught in a storm and sank with a crew of about 650 people, different in various sources. Only 69 sailors could be saved. A memorial was built to commemorate those who died in Kuşimoto under the instruction of the Japanese Emperor and was later expanded in 1929 by the Japanese Government. Monument were restored in 1937 by Turkey. This medal was commemorated by this restoration.
After this incident, Kuşimoto became the sister city of Mersin and Yakakent. In Mersin, the name Kuşimoto is given to a street which is the center of cultural art activities. One of the martyrs who died in the accident was the grandfather of grandfather Can Yücel, the grandfather of Hasan Ali Yücel, one of the first National Education Ministers of the Republic. We commemorate our martyrs with respect.
